MidWest Missionair’s first projects were directed at evangelism.  In those days “The Jesus Film” was new to Central America and most of our efforts revolved around showing the film in remote areas of Honduras.  During the day we did small repair projects for missionaries and participated in feeding hungry children who lived at the city dump.

Text Box: History

Then in October 1998 an event happened that changed the  thrust of our mission.  Central America was hit by a 100 year hurricane.  Mitch caused what ABC news referred to as  “a flood of biblical proportions”.  The governments of the United States, Canada, England, Switzerland, Germany as well as others sent teams to repair the massive damage done to bridges and roads.  Today the infrastructure is in better shape than before Mitch.

But tens of thousands of people left homeless by the floods still live in make shift shacks, squatting on land that they do not own and drinking unfit water.

One of many groups that have been working on providing clean water and housing is Living Waters International (LWI).  LWI’s main ministry is to provide clean water to drink.  Mike Gullickson drills wells and installs water filters to this end and after clean water is available, his wife Georgiann, an RN, administers medicine to rid children of parasites that the bad water has caused.  Providing clean water provides a natural opening to introduce people to Jesus, the Living Water.

Occasionally, Mike and Georgiann find a deserving family in need of a home.  They raise the money and organize work teams to get the house built.

MidWest Missionair has worked with Mike and Georgiann on several occasions to provide both water and housing.  Click here to learn how Evelyna’s house came to be.
